TTCA Announcing Philip Farmer as the Keynote Speaker at TTCA Convention

Philip Farmer, a touring professional coach, will be the keynote speaker at the TTCA Convention.

Farmer, a motivational and strategical speaker, will address the convention on Friday and Saturday of this year’s convention, at Horseshoe Bay Resort, the opening of the three-day event. His appearance is sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.

A North Dallas-area resident of Prosper, Farmer has coached some of the top tennis players in the world. Currently, Farmer is coaching Austin Krajicekwho was a doubles finalist at the 2022 French Open. He also mentors Hans Hach Verdugowho attained a career-high of No. 60 in the world in doubles.

Farmer previously coached the former top-ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan for five years. The talented brothers won four Grand Slam titles and were finalists on four occasionsduring their time with Farmer. The identical twins are the most successful doubles team in the history of tennis.

Additionally, Farmer has coached Andre Begemann, Martin EmmrichGraydon OliverSam Querry, and Shahar Peer.

“Some of the messages I will be speaking about at the conference are how to add value to players games at all levels when they do not have the ball/or not hitting the ball!” Farmer said. “Sometimes as coaches we focus so much on hitting the ball but the analytics will blow you away with how little time you are actually hitting the ball in singles and especially in doubles, so there becomes a huge importance of what skill sets you’re developing when you do not have the ball on your strings!”

“I also love showing the statistics/percentages of how often in tennis matches we all lose points, however if we see the big picture of what we truly need to do to win enough points to win singles and doubles matches it helps limit our pressure and stress that we put on ourselves to perform well and win and I love speaking on that perspective to help us compete better and handle the pressure. “

“I will also share some great insight and stories from my experience from the United States Davis cup team, the United States Olympic team, winning the French Open final in 2003 with the Bryan brothers, stories about in-depth conversations of life and tennis with Andre Agassi, and more. I have always put a huge importance on trying to look through the lens of the tennis player I’m coaching and understanding what they are going through on and off the court and trying to help manage their emotions to have a better experience as they play this great sport.  Tennis is such an incredible vehicle to build incredible relationships and friendships and I have been very fortunate throughout my career to have built some incredible relationships and friendships through tennis that carry on today. As I get older, I am reminded of how valuable this is in life, and will share how this can truly help you in becoming a better tennis coach and person.“

Farmer played collegiately at the University of Oklahoma from 1992-1996. He served as the assistant coach of the U.S. Davis Cup Team from 2003-2005.

In 2013, Farmer was selected as the Texas and National Touring Coach of the Year. He was featured in the 2014 book “Mental Toughness 101.”

Some of the themes Farmer imparts to organizations are “teamwork,” “perseverance,” “problem solving under pressure,” and “letting go of fear to achieve your goals.”

Farmer will present on court on Friday afternoon December 9, speak at the Hall of Fame and Coach of the Year Banquet Friday evening December 9, and present on court again on Saturday morning December 10.  This year’s TTCA Convention will take place at Horseshoe Bay Resort December 9-11.  Coaches can register by going the TTCA Website.
